Parents, I am sending home new log in information for Education City at home. Education City is a great resource to use at home. Students can learn basic skills while playing games and having fun. You could add Education City time to their homework time. We usually do 2nd grade here at school, but you can add enrichment and have your child choose 3rd grade. Or if they need to practice more basic skills, have your child choose kindergarten or first grade for a great review!
We had a great Fall Party on Friday. Thank you to everyone who donated items. Here are a few pictures from the party.

In science, we have been learning about matter. This week we discussed properties of matter - hard, soft, shiny, bendable, etc. Students had to construct a hat made out of different materials. In science are learning a lot. Last week we asked "Can mountains last forever?" We did a fun experiment with sugar cubes. We put sugar cubes in a container and shook it. We could see the edges become round; just like a rock that travels down the mountain. This week we are learning about landslides. We are coming up with ways to prevent them or prevent damage.

HOPEFULLY your child can now tell you why leaves change colors in the fall. We did our leaf experiment this week. We broke up spinach leaves, mushed them together with fingernail polish remover, and let them sit over night with a coffee filter in the mixture. Our hope was that the colors of the leaf would come out and we would see other colors besides green. We did! We saw orange, yellow, and red! When we were done, we did leaf rubbings, wrote acrostic poems about leaves, and painted coffee filters to look like leaves.
Two weeks ago we asked the question: How can I keep my banana fresh? As a class, we picked 4 different places around the classroom to test our experiment. You'll never guess what works - - the microwave!!! We observed them every day and drew pictures of how they changed.
Our Gummy Bear science experiments were so fun! We asked what would happen if we put gummy bears in different liquids. We put them in regular water, salt water, baking soda and water, and vinegar. The students my guesses what would happen. We couldn't believe our eyes on some of them!
